Behind the Build: An Inside Look at Villa Cassia’s Design Process
At Cove Projects, we’re more than just property developers; we’re passionate creators of spaces that reflect both beauty and functionality. Villa Cassia, our current build project, is the perfect example of this philosophy in action. Located in Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast, this twin villa development blends modern Mediterranean influences with coastal living, bringing together timeless design and contemporary features.
1. Bringing the Vision to Life
As the owner and developer of Villa Cassia, we wanted to create a Mediterranean-inspired home that suited the relaxed coastal lifestyle of the Gold Coast. Having admired their previous work with arches and balconies, Vanguard Building Design were the perfect fit to help us translate our vision into reality. The design needed to capture a balance of simplicity, elegance, and functionality—elements that we knew would resonate with future buyers and the surrounding environment.
2. Translating Vision into Architectural Design
From the outset, arches became the defining feature of Villa Cassia, giving the exterior a classic Mediterranean feel while enhancing the flow of natural light. Arches are featured at the entry veranda, custom bedroom window and balcony veranda.
3D renders and detailed floor plans allowed us to visualize the layout and materials early on, helping us tweak the design before building commenced. Key design features such as the expansive arch windows and balconies were instantly recognizable in these visualizations, bringing the dream to life long before the build began.
3. Material Selection: Creating the Perfect Palette
One of the most exciting parts of the build process is selecting materials that align with the design vision. For Villa Cassia, we opted for a palette of natural materials that blend with the modern Mediterranean aesthetic.
Travertine stone coping was chosen for the Plunge pool surround, adding a natural, timeless element to the outdoor space.
Natural limestone from Stone Style was selected for feature walls, bringing warmth and texture to both the interior and exterior areas.
Inside, we chose natural oak hybrid wood flooring, offering durability and a sophisticated finish that complements the overall design.
These ideas are combined onto a mood board to present to the architect and builder.
4. Collaborating with Industry Experts
Creating Villa Cassia has been a collaborative effort, drawing on the expertise of a talented team. We worked closely with Hatti Interiors, whose mood boards guided the interior styling decisions. Their focus on modern Mediterranean aesthetics, with an emphasis on natural textures and light, will ensure the final furniture and décor staging complements the architecture.
On-site, the teamwork extends to skilled tradespeople who bring these designs to life with precision. From the structural elements to the finishing details, every step has been a coordinated effort between Cove Projects, architects, designers, trades and builders.
5. Looking Ahead: Final Touches
With the final fit-out almost complete, it’s exciting to see the finishing touches added. Custom cabinetry, tapware, and lighting will be installed in the kitchen, laundry, and bathrooms. Flooring is laid last, and glass balustrades inside and out.
One of Villa B’s standout features is the full-height arched window, adding elegance and charm to the upper-level design. Complementing this are the beautifully crafted arched batten details on the balcony, creating a cohesive and timeless architectural aesthetic.
As we enter the final stages of the Villa Cassia build, the next exciting phase is landscaping. The design will highlight the striking 3.5m circular Plunge pools, within a Mediterranean-inspired courtyard.
